First Small Step Toward Better Fitness
Why am I writing about fitness in a blog about getting out of debt? Because getting fitter will give me more energy to put into the work I need to do to get out of debt, whether that’s planning or working on bill-able projects (web development). Fitter, healthier, more motivated, more sleep, more energy – all helping do my day job better and put more effort into getting out of debt.
I aim to do 30 minutes on the exercise bike Mon/Wed/Fri and the gym twice a week, starting now – honestly.
This morning I didn’t do the bike (since I realized I hadn’t updated my time-sheets for work and I though I’d better do them). I decided to do the bike when I got home, but used the excuse of taking the youngest boy to Cubs, so I couldn't fit it in. Fortunately he didn’t go to Cubs due to a black eye received wrestling with a friend the night before, so I managed the bike for 30 minutes.
I’ve also managed to stay alcohol free, sipping on soya milk instead (to give me something to reach for instead of alcohol). I’m not a heavy drinker, but a couple of cans of beer, or a couple of glasses of wine, or whisky (you get the point) every night has become too much of a habit. Oh my god! I’ve just realized that I am a heavy drinker – that adds up to 30 units a week, also contributing towards my lack of sleep, motivation, and overweight (180lbs at 5’ 7” and a BMI of 28.2 at the upper end of overweight – almost into obese – a bit of a shock for someone who used to be so fit 10 years ago)
